2rog’s staff have been involved in planning and implementing offset sites in Queensland for over a decade. And now we have done a detailed analysis of how a portfolio of sites are going. We analysed the progress of six offsets sites in central Queensland, auditing actions that have been undertaken and the ecological outcomes that are being achieved to-date. This allowed us to evaluate the extent to which offsets are ‘on-track’ to meet their required completion criteria. Overall, the offsets are performing reasonably well – not all are on-track, but the audit had identified issues and there is sufficient time to implement corrective actions. The audit also made a number of overarching observations that can be implemented on future offsets to ensure they are designed to get meaningful conservation outcomes and will be implemented in a fit-for-purpose and effective manner.
