Issue 27 Northern Murray-Darling Basin Environmental Flows Forum

In late May researchers from across the Northern Murray-Darling Basin came to the University of New England to participate in a two-day forum showcasing the last years worth of new environmental flow related science. The annual forum highlights opportunities for collaboration where we all share the mutual goal of achieving better environmental outcomes through environmental water delivery and management.

Cultural Advisor Catch Up – Moree 23 June 2022

Paul and Ellen made quick trip over to Moree to catch up with Liz (Gwydir Cultural Advisor), Kevin (Warrego-Darling Cultural Advisor) & Jane (Local Engagement Officer, CEWO). We talked about the project so far and about what we’d like to achieve in the next phase, we are excited! Can’t beat an in-person catch up!

Mallowa Creek Flow Event Update

Following a number of dry years, conditions at Mallowa Creek are looking better. Late 2021 and early 2022 have seen regular flows to which vegetation is responding well. Additional delivery of water for the environment has provided foraging habitat for waterbirds that bred in massive numbers within the Gwydir Wetlands.

2021-22 Lower Balonne updates

The objectives of flows in the Lower Balonne are to reconnect rivers in the Lower Balonne and further downstream, inundate Narran Lakes (Dharriwaa) Ramsar site to support water bird breeding, and to help native fish to move, breed and disperse.
